No preparation is needed - just bring your personality, energy and a willingness to have fun. This clever ensemble show offers numerous roles and great comedic movements for performers of all ages and types.
The History of Dating – a comedic romp through the ages - is a lighthearted, comedic journey through the evolution of romance — from the days of the ancient Greeks to modern times! This fast-paced one-act play features nine short scenes (or vignettes) spanning history, each filled with humor, charm, and plenty of relatable moments.
The full performance runs about an hour, with each scene lasting around ten minutes.
Much like the popular Short Play Festival, this production welcomes actors of all experience levels. Participants can perform with or without a script — those who wish to memorize their lines are encouraged to do so. It’s a fun, low-pressure opportunity to take the stage and share some laughs!

4 Greek Women – none of them are having it

Colonial Man – writes love letters
Colonial Woman – not sure of this guy
Scene 3 – The Wild West
Villain – classic melodrama character
Heroine – classic melodrama character
Hero– classic melodrama character
Widow– classic melodrama character
Pony Express – surprise true love
Scene 4 – The Roaring 20’s
Flapper – wants to have fun
Suffragette – takes the right to vote very seriously
Sadie Hawkins – awkward and goofy
2 Fellas – goofy, respectful

1 Greaser – tough guy with a sensitive side
Scene 6 – The 1960’s
Hippie Man – peace not war
Hippie Woman – knows her rights, loves the Earth

Eighties Man – made his babe a totally awesome mixtape
Eighties Woman – made one for him too, but different meaning
Scene 8 – Current
3 Girls - serious about dating
1 Man – a “GQ’ suave, guy
